Police say Lázár’s claim is untrue, no one was ID-checked at the Gyöngyös Lázár Info event

The organizers of the Lázár Info event held in Gyöngyös on January 29 did not request police assistance to maintain order. According to a police statement, officers did not check the identification of anyone among the participants before, during, or after the forum. They also stated that no video or audio recordings were made at the event.

This is noteworthy because János Lázár had previously told the press—and also claimed in a short video to his followers—that police had checked the IDs of protesters who disrupted his Gyöngyös forum. He said that information about which participants had criminal records had reached him through the police.

Based on the police statement, therefore, what János Lázár claimed cannot be true.

According to RTL News, police officers did pull aside one Roma protester at the event and spoke with him, but did not carry out an identity check. Several participants also confirmed to the TV channel that no ID checks took place.
